US Win Female Olympic Gold |

The female national team of the United States earlier today edged out the skillful Samba Girls of Brazil to retain the women's Olympic football gold courtesy of an extra time goal from Carli Lloyd.
The win made it three gold wins in four Games for the US while the Brazilians settle for a second consecutive silver medal after losing to the US on extra time as well at the Athens 2004 Games.
The match however was one the Brazilians deserved to win with Marta forcing the best out of the American keeper Hope Solo before Cristiane; winner of the Golden Boot, saw a shot go just over the crossbar before Amy Rodriguez almost settled the encounter late in regulation time.
In the bronze medal match also played today, Japan held their own till the last 20 minutes Germany when Fatmire Bajramaj scored a brace to win the tie 2-0 for the European and World champions.
