Jamaica's Usain Bolt coasted home to a second Olympic gold when he won the men's 200m final in a new world record time of 19.30 seconds, breaking Michael Johnson's previous time of 19.32 set at the Olympics Games of 1996 in Atlanta.
The Jamaican sensation finished ahead of Americans Shawn Crawford and Walter Dix who both finished under 20 seconds as well while Kim Collins finished last after two runners were disqualified.
Nigeria's sole representative at the event, Obinna Metu had crashed out in the second round with a sixth place finish at 20.65 seconds.
The attention will now shift to the men's and women's relays which begins later today with Nigeria in heat one with the United States and Brazil while hot favourites Jamaica start in heat two with Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell in the team.
Nigeria's women start in heat one along with the United States and Great Britain while the Jamaicans start in heat two though Russia, France and Ukraine are favourites as well for gold.
