When I see a richman, I am not bothered about the magnitude of his possessions, I am concerned about three things:
1.The source of his wealth: Knowing how one acquired his wealth matters a lot That rich philanthropist who throws money around may be one of those armed bandits who make life unbearable for people. He may be one of those dubious contractors who left our roads and energy sector in a pathetic state. Though nowadays, it’s no longer deemed important to know the root of one’s wealth. As far as you are rich, how you made your wealth doesn’t matter. Yet, any good thinking person has to ask questions.
2. The number of people his wealth has touched: According to William James, the best use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts it. You can’t outgive the giver. No man can attain riches unless he enriches others. It is as simple as that. I have studied the success stories of many great men. I found out that many of them were generous with their wealth. J.C.Penny and R.G. Le Touneau built vast wealth, but each attributed much of his success to sharing his good fortune with others. It is possible to give away and become rich, and it is also possible to hold on too tightly and lose everything. Yes, the liberal man shall be rich .By watering others, he waters himself. God loves a cheerful giver and will return His gifts many times over if the gifts are given with the right attitude. I think it is wrong to give with the expectation of getting. Your gifts have to be given freely with no strings attached. When gifts are given unselfishly, with nothing expected in return, they will be returned many times over.
It is not a blessing that you built a state-of-the-art mansion, with a fleet of exotic automobiles, decorated with numerous awards and chieftancy titles while the people that live around you are wallowing in abject poverty. Until your wealth begins to improve your society, it remains a curse! The chairman of Microsoft corporation, Bill Gates has remained an all season giver. He gives massively, yet, he was until recently, the world’s richest person. Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the founder, Rochas foundation, was said to have escaped death by whiskers, few years ago when he allegedly missed an earlier booked flight which later crashed, killing everyone on board. Some other person may be surprised by the way God saved him, i am not. This is a man who has given scholarships to thousands of poor students. Such a person don’t die young. Even though he walk through the valley of the shadow of death, God has a way of saving him, because he is doing the work of God. He is implementing the plan of God. If God allow him to die now, what do you think will be the fate of those less privileged students he is taking care of? God can’t permit such a thing to happen knowing that it will take him a whole lot of time to raise another giver like Rochas. He is in God’s purpose for his life, and this is the strongest defence against death. God’s purpose for you is greater than your problems, your pain and even your death. It is by giving that your wealth can be established.
An average Yoruba wouldn’t like to find the “Awolowos” in need, because their patriarch, the late Premier, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, during his days in office, ensured that many Yorubas went to school with the help of the proceeds from cocoa. Though Awolowo died many years ago, his legacy lives on. People can still feel the impact of his good deeds. That’s true success! It is quite a fact that if you are not doing something with your life, it doesn’t matter how long it is. According to Eleanor Roosevelt, America’s former firstlady, when you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die
3.His plans to get his wealth multiplied: The toughest thing about success is that you have got to keep on being a success. I have seen many financial successes changed into debt-ridden individuals. In the early 90s, a lot of millionaire entrepreneurs emerged in Nigeria. They floated filling stations, community banks, transport companies, et cetera. But today, many of them are no where to be found and their chain of businesses have gone into oblivion. I have come to realize that money doesn’t stay with people who can’t multiply it; if you don’t have any plan to improve on the money in your hand, it will skip off your hand into the hand that can cherish it
