Atiku & PDP's Poisoned Offer

The call by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asking the foremost opposition leader in the country, a former vice president of the federation, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to abandon his pet project, the Action Congress , and come back to PDP, a party Prof. Wole Soyinka described as "Nest of killers", has an undertone that the PDP is bent to rubbish the image of the Turaki Adamawa.
If today, the PDP, is calling for the neck of its mentor and benevolent uncle, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to abdicate throne as BoT chairman of the party, then Atiku whom the party was against in the later days of the last dispensation is not safe should he accept the PDP's jaded offer. His reputation would be smeared if he inclines his ear to this equivocal gift by the PDP.
Atiku should know that those who, perhaps, are calling on him today to return to the PDP, are the same people who wanted his head on the noose for the handwriting he saw on the walls of Aso Rock that Obasanjo wanted to perpetuate himself in the office and he spoke out.
Those people are turning against their Rabi, Chief Obasanjo, and the unrepentant Obasanjo loyalists are not finding things easy in this administration. Apart from Chief Lamidi Adedibu who surrendered to the cold hands of death, people like Chief Olabode George, fulcrum and sturdy of the Owu-Generalisimo are not finding it easy.
While George is cooling in the EFCC's gulag, the former EFCC boss, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, must be thinking on how to write a book of his life in the Nigerian political landscape. The story would make a lot of sense and nonsense.
If not that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had God on his side, he would have been writing his own book, on the negative side of the Nigerian politics, by now. He was Obasanjo's protective covering. No amount of his connection would have saved him of his job. The PDP-led government now have used or applied every chicanery means to see that he was caught in the insolence web, but Soludo seemed to be awake when his god was killing those asleep.
If all these were meted-out to those arch-PDP loyalists, what is the tendency that Atiku was not going to suffer vendetta if he goes back to the PDP? And for what reason is the PDP calling him to come back? The likes of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Chukwumereije Uche have a crying story to tell Nigerians about the PDP. Nigerians have heard their stories but in every parlance they have much to tell Nigerians in the future about the PDP Obasanjo led. And today has that same PDP changed? President Musa Yar'Adua vowed to observe the rule of law, but is that rule not seen being broken today? If you want to know, go and ask people like Chiefs Gani and Falana and Agbakoba.
PDP has seen that Atiku is a overpowering force behind the opposition in the country, PDP now is luring him to come back to a party that nearly rubbished his political career if not that Atiku was extrasensory in the politics played here. And if he wishes to join them, then that becomes the beginning of the final rest-in-peace of opposition in the country, which is at this time, gasping for breath.
Atiku must have known that he has a name that rings a bell in the minds of Nigerians as a democrat. He is a political role model to many. And that is why he should decline the PDP's poisoned offer, except he wants that name dead. Or, except the PDP would 'rig' him into the party as known of PDP to be master in election rigging. Re- Atiku & PDP's Poisoned Offer
I wish Atiku and other oppositon groups could read this piece. It is only the relentless and fortified views and actions of the opposition that can curb excesses of the PDP and our government; that can prepare us for checks and balances in our polity and subsequently bring responsibility, responsiveness and accountability to our political system.
