D'Banj
D'Banj
For anybody at all in Nigeria, D'Banj is not a person that needs much introduction, except maybe for his real names. From the bus conductor on the streets to the high executives in those air-conditioned offices. Those 'who have not encountered him directly...maybe by purchasing his CDs....they have through one person or the other...maybe their kids or their friends.

When D' Banj happened to Nigerians a couple of years ago, not many people thought he would come this far in the industry. He stole the attention of Nigerians with the masterful way he played the harmonica. Hits like 'Tongolo'  and 'Mobolowon' ushered him into the hearts of Nigerians and since then, there has been no stopping him. He has been moving from strength to strength which has made him one of the most successful musicians in motherland today.

Fully named Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, D'Banj has also made unprecedented headway with corporate organisations. He has many endorsement deals which has seen him climb the ladder of the top ten richest Nigerian artistes to the second spot behind Tu Face. He is said to be worth about a hundred and eighty million Naira.... that's a lotta money.

Better known as the Kokomaster, the 28 year old is currently the brand ambassador for home made telecommunications giant, GLO, Virgin Nigeria and Power Fist amongst others.

Recently, the guy released his latest album titled, 'The Entertainer'. Since then, there has hardly been a day that the album failed to be aired on all the hip-hop playing radio stations in the country. One does not need to conduct a market research to know how well the album is faring.

Tracks like 'Mo gbono feli feli', 'Fall in Love', 'Igwe', and 'Olorun maje' have been enjoying so much air play that D'Banj himself must have been flattered. Everywhere you go these days, you hear one of those tracks, from clubs to parties, bars, restaurants and almost everywhere else that music is played.

'Mo gbono feli feli'(meaning "I'm hot"), tells his fans exactly that. Trul.... he's hot and he says; "Don't hate me cos I'm hotter than you".

One can only hope that the kokomaster really means those words he used in the track; 'Fall in Love'. If he really means them then we should see him marry very soon and as I said earlier.... one can only hope.

'Igwe' is kinda eastern Nigeria oriented. The track title itself is the itle of a ruler in the eastern part of Nigeria. The guy managed to pull off some of the lyrics in Igbo language…thumbs up for that.

I must admit that D'Banj always has a way of bringing God into his albums. 'Olorun maje' is to 'The Entertainer' what 'Mobolowon' was to his first album.  This track is like a prayer to God: 'Some people dey pray make I die, why? Olorun Maje o, Olorun Maje".

The album also has other tracks like; celebrate featuring Wande Coal, Suddenley, Gbelogbelo featuring Special Ed., If dey crase featuring K-Switch, Entertainer and Kimun maki8ng a total of ten tracks.

Released under Don Jazzy's label, Mo'hit Records, The Entertainer is marketed by CN Media Ltd…What else, we should give 'em all kudos for a job well done…we're also waitin' for the videos.
