The 5th of august 2008 dawned and all roads led to Ago-Iwoye, the home town of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, formerly known as the Ogun State University, OSU. Students had gathered the day before to write the exam, they were gathering for the 5th and would still be present for the 6th depending on their disciplines at the University. There was a noticeable presence of thousands of students who were at the University for the Post Jamb exercise; they had come from various parts of the country to the main campus commonly known as P.S., permanent site by the Staylites of the university, which was filled with thousands of hopefuls.
There was a constant stream of about 200 - 250 candidates constantly waiting at the OOU, Ago-Iwoye, to be transported via the school bus of the university to their various venues for the exam. All that was required was for the students to queue and have their exam materials ready. Unfortunately, the University authorities were not quite prepared; they were lacking in organizational skills and unprepared for the number of students that turned up. The cost of the scratch card was N4, 500 and more and a really big issue was the fact that the passport photograph on the many of the photo card for the candidates did not reflect on the photo card and where it did, it was either too large or too small as though they had been gazing into concave or convex mirrors. An examination that was meant to start at 1pm began at about 4.30 pm and ended at about 6pm. Also, some of the students were constantly being moved around from lecture theatre to lecture theatre, with no particular venue allocated to them. They were unfazed by the threats of the security outfit that was used to control them and although they were threatened, they moved on trekking up and down from venue to venue. The exams eventually finished at 6pm and the mammoth proportions of students exited the Tertiary institution and returned to their various destinations not quite sure whose hands their fates lay in, but satisfied to have crossed another hurdle in the join to gain admission in a Nigerian University.
