The MTN Xtrapro Inspirational Seminar Series featuring international business icon and motivational speaker Christopher Gardner, which held in Lagos at The Civic Centre, Lagos on the 1st of August, also made debut in Abuja at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, on the 2nd of August, 2008.

The telecom company took the inspirational seminar to the capital city with the desire to empower a new generation of young creative business class with the necessary tools for living their dreams.

Speaking at the event, Kola Oyeyemi, GM, Consumers marketing, MTN Nigeria, explained that  the event provides a platform for the August visitor, who through his achievements represents the product of what passion, goal setting and pursuit of same and  professionalism can do to the achievement of life goals, to relate his experience to the target audience.

“In an environment like ours, were there are a lot of challenges, and odds facing us every day, we need the same spirit that took Chris Gardner to where he is today in order to succeed in business and in life generally” he said

The motivational series was facilitated by MTN Xtrapro a telecommunications brand targeted at the young and upwardly mobile professionals to empower them with products, services, and lifestyle benefits that provide access to uncommon knowledge and facilitate outstanding performance in their carriers. The brand seeks and identifies with winning platforms that connects with the progressive aspirations of its target market- young professionals.

In the light of this, the event is therefore positioned to feed this class of people with inspiring information from Chris Gardner, a self made millionaire, someone whose story has become something of a myth in business climes. Apparently, Gardner’s visit to Nigeria promotes professionalism and self actualization. Participants at the Abuja edition of the seminar had a lot of lessons to learn from Gardner’s inspirational success story of how he rose from homeless father to Wall Street broker.

Born February 9, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Christopher Paul Gardner's childhood was marked by poverty, domestic violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse and family illiteracy. He grew under the strong tutelage of his mother, Bettye Jean Triplett, whose influence shaped his life very positively.

Hardwork and a dint of fortune smiled at him, when he got a job in Bear Stearns & Co from 1983-1987 where he became a top earner. In 1987 he founded the brokerage firm Gardner Rich & Company, Inc. an institutional brokerage firm specializing in the execution of debt, equity and derivative products transactions for some of the nations largest institutions, public pension plans and unions. The company has expanded into Christopher Gardner International Holdings and now has business interests abroad.

The inspiring story of Gardner's life became a New York Times and Washington Post #1 bestseller. While the movie version of his autobiography, The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith and son, Jaden Smith was a block buster. MTN Xtrapro’s aim, through Gardner’s speaking engagements and media projects, is to help others achieve their full potential.
