The improper ways of feeding infants can lead to diarrhoea disease and malnutrition in infants and the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State has asked for more support for mothers in order to attain an optimum feeding level in infants.
Dr. Jide Idris made this known at the 2nd Child Health Week, adding that not only the health sector can and should support mothers in the drive to ensure proper breastfeeding is administered to infants. This according to him would ensure a prevention of infants having a high risk of contracting childhood diseases. He added that breast milk is accepted globally as the first and best food for babies right after their birth right up to their sixth month.
The State Health Commissioner noted that the Child Health Week has contributed to the increased routine immunisation coverage urged all to promote and patronise the State's Primary Health Care Services.
