The Senate would reopen its probe of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) after fresh revelations showed officials of the Obasanjo administration squandered N112b of the company's funds as well as disclosures of a conspiracy to kill the former single national carrier.
According to Chairman of Senate Committee on Communications Sector, Senator Sylvester Anyanwu said the 112b was misappropriated when NITEL was being managed by Pentascope; which he alleged to be a front for two friends of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He went further to reveal that officials of Pentascope had dumped the management of NITEL when it couldn't run the telecoms outfit any longer, adding that within six months lent N40b from banks when NITEL had N13b in treasury bills as well as about N59b supposed to have been made within the period.
The probe comes after that conducted by the House of Representatives which indicted former Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) Director General Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, though the indictment was later nullified by courts.
