“What a true inspiration you are to me. Your hard work and time you devote to these children is more than any medal or money. It also puts what I do (football) into perspective.” Message left in visitor's book by Rio Ferdinand.
The most expensive defender in world football returns to Nigeria this weekend with Manchester United and has asked his personal manager, Chris Nathaniel from NVA Management, to deliver his best wishes and some much needed resources to an orphanage he visited earlier in the summer.

When Ferdinand visited the orphanage in June he was touched by the hard work and commitment of the staff and volunteers. The visit moved the London born defender to leave a heartfelt message in the visitors book reading:

“What a true inspiration you are to me. Your hard work and time you devote to these children is more than any medal or money. It also puts what I do (football) into perspective.”

Ferdinand has asked Nathaniel to pass on a personal message to the children at the Motherless Children orphanage on Friday.

Manchester United and England star, Rio Ferdinand, commented: “I hope my donation to the Motherless Children orphanage will help to assist the important work carried out there. I was deeply touched by the efforts I saw to try and help those who are less fortunate.

“I had an amazing time in Nigeria earlier in the summer and am thrilled to be coming back with my team mates from Manchester United. I’ve told them a lot about the kindness of the Nigerian people.”

Chris Nathaniel, CEO of NVA Management, who manages Rio Ferdinand and also Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins, added: “Rio was really touched by the welcome he received at the orphanage when he visited in June and it has been a priority of his to make sure he delivers on his promise to assist them in some way.”
