The Action Congress has congratulated former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela on his 90th borthday which was celebrated last week, stating his exemplary leadership is a yardstick with which Afrian leaders would be measured with for years to come.

The AC praised him for his fight for the against the apartheid era of South Africa at a great personal cost and also for declining to serve a constitutional second term after his first five year tenure ended, despite his popularity being at an all time high then.

He could have plotted how to rig elections and how to hold on to power but he, described as the glue that holds South Africa together, left the stage unlike the egotistic leaders that abound the African continent, said the Party.

Mandela, popular called Madiba, celebrated his birthday on July 18 and among events to mark the milestone, a concert was held in London featuring world music artistes including Nigeria's rave 9ice.
