Obsolete Weapons Stall Customs' Border Operations |

Hamman Bello, the Comptroller General of Customs has made it known that the under-par efforts of the Service in successfully combating smuggling is due to the outdated weapons available to it.
He added that the border's around Nigeria are too porous, making it extremely difficult for the activities of smugglers to be checked especially as these smugglers make use of more sophisticated weapons compared to the 40 year old ones usually used by the Customs.
Bello also made known the uncooperative nature of the Nigeria Railways Corporation (NRC) in the matter of four seized wagons whose owners they are yet to make known despite repeated requests from the Customs.
Meanwhile, the Area Comptroller of Oyo and Osun States, Mrs. Patience Iferi highlighted the success of the two commands so far this year with a total generated revenue of N7.6b between January and June, adding seizures from smugglers worth N39m have been made also.
