The management of Oyi Security Services on behalf of other operatives write to express their displeasure over a write-up in one of the National dailies, “Tribune Newspaper” of July 6, 2008 accusing the Private Guard Company of been informants to armed robbers.
The write-up is far from reality especially now that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps took up the mantle of regulating, supervising and monitoring of the industry. We wish to state that, with the coming on board of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the industry have been restructured, re-activated, professionalized repositioned and quacks sent out of the industry as a result of the on-going sensitization and sanitization programme. The effort of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps can not be quantified as we on our part assured them of total support as well as the industry in order to ensure reduction in crime, compliance to the rules and regulations governing the operation of Private Guard Companies in the country. However, we will appreciate if any person or group of persons who feels the Corps have not done much or have any other contrary opinion to such should come out openly instead of castigating the young organization by challenging government policy. We practitioners in the industry will not condole or take lightly any statement made by any disgruntled elements in the name of castigating Private Guard Companies and our supervising body. It is worthy of note, that the Private Guard Companies industries operating within the Northern zone and middle belt wish to counter any unscrupulous write-up aimed at damaging the reputation of the industry . First and fore-most, it is pertinent to state that, ever-since the Private Guard Companies have been operating, there is nobody that really put the interest of the industry at heart but with the advent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the industry have attended successfully three consecutive stakeholders forum where issues concerning the industry is discussed. We wish to draw the attention of all those behind the write-up that we in the industry are responsible and patriotic citizens that have served the nation diligently in one capacity or the other, therefore, It is an insult on our persons and personality for been accused of recruiting informant to armed robbers as stated in the publication. In support of Mr. President’s seven point Agenda and the role of the Civil Defence in accordance to the rules and regulations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are however calling on all government and private institutions to desist from employing guards of their own rather engaging the services of professional Private Guard operatives. We also urged all and sundry to rally round the Civil Defence and support them in their crusade of sanitizing the industry for a better Nigeria instead of unnecessary criticism.
