You might be wondering if this writer is going bunkers or something with that kinda headline. Well that's the idea...what really happened was that Etcetera, which explains the headline, held a live performance at The Palms shopping mall at Lekki.
Now Etcetera is a relatively new guy on the Nigerian music scene and comes with a contemporary style of music that is much away from the usual stuff that have taken over our radio sets and probably found their ways into our iPods and mp3 players. He actually released his debut, self titled 15 tracker album about four months ago and even Steve Babaeko, the CEO of Etcetera's record label Xtreme Music, is awed by the performance of the album; which you'll get more details on as well as on the artiste here soon. In the meantime, Etcetera got the evening at the mall going with a number from the album which had those of us around for the performance; and maybe catch a movie later, clapping along. And just so we know how much of a gentleman is inside the musician, Etcetera obliged to perform a favourite song on the request of a lady, of course from his album. The best part of the song, for me, is the title...wait for it..."This is not a song", so what is it? Well I'd call it a sorrenous, soulful poem backed up by some guitar strings; at least as performed. Then we got to the part that got some of the men around jealous, as four ladies were selected by the artiste to share their experience on their way to the small gig, with the most pitiful winning a nice gift courtesy of the man himself...touché. Anyway, we heard stories of 2 hour traffic and having to ditch a trip to "Cotonou just to be here today". Ditching the trip to Cotonou paid off though as the lady here went home with a well wrapped gift of...well, it's wrapped right. There also was this woman who ditched a flight from the previous day just to be at the Palms. Yep, you guessed it, she went home with something too.
Nothing personal leaving the fellas out so we went on with the show with one last performance of a song; also in his album, inspired by the story of a woman in Ghana who lost her fiance in the Liberia war, just after they got engaged. From that, all shared a few laughs with Etcetera, taking photographs with him and having their CDs; which I also purchased and will have a listen to, autographed. Musician Zeal, looking radiant and pregnant, also had her's autographed. She IS pregnant if you did not know and she wished him and his album all the best. We here at NyNaijaNews also wish Etcetera a good run in the Naija music scene.
