With the nationwide teachers' strike biting hard on the education sector, the Ogun State Government has been lauded by the State NUT for paying accurate salary structure to teachers as approved by the Federal Government.
According to the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Comrade Seni Idowu, Governor Gbenga Daniel has shown genuine interest for teachers in the State through prompt responses to issues on welfare and regular payment of salaries and allowances.
He stated however that the current nationwide strike was necessary as the FG had failed to respond to the NUT's request for salary increment and since it is a national matter, the State NUT could not be an exception from the strike action.
He however maintained that the cordial relationship between the Governor and teachers in the State would remain unaffected as according to him, the Governor is education-friendly.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Segun Awonusi commended the teachers in the State for a peaceful strike action by them, realising their rights to press for their demands legitimately.
He also assured of the administration's non hesitation in holding dialogue with the teachers, adding that the demands would be implemented once the FG had agreed to the demands. Quote this article on your site | Views: 208 | Print | E-mail
