Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a gubernatorial candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Ebonyi State during the April 2007 elections, has sued the State-owned radio for misinforming the public by announcing his case against the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) has been struck out from the Enugu Court of Appeal.
In a statement made by the former Governor of the old Abia State, Onu said his attention was drawn to a recent radio news broadcast in the Igbo service of Ebonyi Broadcasting Service (EBBS) falsely announcing his appeal against the judgement of the Governorship and Legislative Houses Election Petition Tribunal had been dismissed by the Court of Appeal in Enugu State.
According to Onu, he not only found the statement in the news broadcast false but also misleading especially when no such pronouncement or even an insinuation to that effect was made by the Court in any of its previous sittings; with the last held on June 2 2008.
To avoid doubt, Onu assured people of Ebonyi State that his appeal was based on firm grounds and from proceedings so far at the Appeal Court, he expects that the outcome would be in his favour.
In the meantime however, he has contacted his lawyers, led by Professor Ben Nwabueze, to initiate immediate action on redressing what he described as a "most contemptible infraction on the due processes of the court of law."
Onu therefore called on people of the State to ignore the news broadcast and treat it "with the appropriate contempt it rightfully deserves as it contains no shred of truth whatsoever." Add as favourites (7) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 166 | Print | E-mail
