Goals in each half from Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Ikechukwu Uche saw the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeat Equatorial Guinea 2-0 at the Abuja National Stadium and qualify for the next stage of qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and African Nations Cup.

The win put Nigeria on an unassailable 12 points from four matches as 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa saw their Nations Cup ambitions slip away in a goalless home draw against Sierra Leone.

The draw meanwhile left South Africa level on four points with Sierra Leone, a point ahead of bottom side Equatorial Guinea who have three points.

In the game against E. Guinea, Nigeria took the lead just before halftime through Everton striker Yakubu after he was set up by PEAK Man of the Match and Lokomotiv Moscow striker, Osaze Odemwingie.

The points were sealed later in the 84th minute when Ik Uche, in for Yakubu, got his second of the qualifiers so far with a powerful shot after good foot work just outside the box.

In other matches played on Saturday, four time African champions Cameroun edged out Tanzania 2-1 in Yaounde to put their campaign back on track after a shock draw in the reverse fixture last weekend in Dar-Es-Salaam.

Morocco also got their campaign back on track with a 2-0 bashing of previous group leaders Rwanda while Burkina Faso edged closer to the nex round of qualifiers with a 4-1 thumping of Seychelles. Burkina Faso and the Super Eagles are the last teams with a perfect record so far.

Tunisia stayed in touch with the Burkinabes with a 2-1 win at home to Burundi to register nine points, three points behind Burkina Faso in Group Nine.

African champions Egypt also gained revenge for last weekend's 1-0 reverse against Malawi when they defeated the Southern Africans 2-0 in Cairo but remain second in Group 12 as DR Congo thrashed Djibouti 5-1 to top with nine points ahead of the Pharaohs on goal difference.

Nigeria will next play away at South Africa in what is an inconsequential match for the Super Eagles. Bafana Bafana however must win that encounter to brighten their chances of making the second round of qualifiers as one of eight best second placed countries.

South Africa however has failed to defeat Nigeria in any competitive match with the only victory coming at the Mandela Challenge invitational tournament back in 2003.
