As a people, we Nigerians can’t afford not to contract home-helpers into our various homes. We employ these helpers as maids, nannies, drivers, cooks and so fourth. Some good spirited helpers serve and we can’t afford missing them. Sometimes we name our children their names and make sure the ones that are of age are married into our homes or our children are married into their homes.
But Poet Against Child Abuse (PACA) observed that in the recent times, many of these helpers have caused many families pains inlure of relieve them the pains which was why they were contracted. Many of the helpers have lured many children that were kept in their care into horrendous businesses that on the children’s own they wouldn’t have thought of such businesses, let alone venturing into them. PACA observed that many of these servants wore the garb to make money than manage the children or madam or oga which was why they were contracted. Many of the helpers want to make money by magic or design. Have Nigerians not heard that servants now kill their employers and cart away with their belongings, especially huge amount of money? PACA says that this is irking that a dog could eat the bone which its owner hung on its neck! News from many quarters about the menace of home-helpers are not appealing to the heart. Have Nigerians not read on the pages of the newspapers or heard it on the radio that home-helpers are now traducers, murderers, criminals, witches and wizards, kidnappers and traitors? Though, it is not all of them, as we have narrated earlier! PACA observed that many of these helpers are no longer trustworthy and humane. Even when their employers do everything to please them, they are like dog that no matter how it is fed would not avoid the eating of shit. But PACA observed that the Madams and Ogas on their own should be blamed. They leave house by 5.00am only to come back by 9.00pm. What time do the modern-day parents have for their children? Suffix it that they are looking for money. Money our foot! PACA observed that most of these helpers are not even known well by their employers. Just that Madam X brought him or her to Madam Y, when madam Y was dire in need of a home-helper. And Madam X, due to it is her business; she does not even know who the helper she was bringing to madam Y was from the Adam. And should the helper cause any heinous deed to the family he or she was employed, where is he or she going to be located by the child-trafficker who was called Madam X and her partner in crime called Madam Y? PACA is advising that people should be wise because the world has gone gaga. People perpetrate evil in many ways. People should stop abetting child-traffickers by asking Madam X to help you look for a home-helper. It is the rat at home that told the one in the bush that fish is in the house. Or is it not? People should rise up and fight this crime of child-trafficking and Child-Abuse that are eating deep into the marrows of many Nigerians. And PACA is set out to combat Child Abuse.
