Samantha has emerged the third finalist to be sent out of the Top ten of the ongoing Idols show in the East and Southern part of the continent 'after ironing out some glitches' with the organiser's website which prevented voters from voting immediately after the sunday show.
Well… the audience were actually given a treat of some good music by the eight contestants who tried to get for themselves the audience’s votes by putting up their best performances. First to hit the platform was Eric who gave a rendition of Mary Mary’s ‘I Can’t Give Up Now’. Samantha took over from him with her version of Pop star, Pink’s ‘Who Knew. Summarily, the judges thought Samantha’s performance was the best she had come up with in the final stages. Adiona came up next with Tamia’s ‘Stranger in My House’. Hers was followed by Cynthia’s effortful performance of the India Arie hit ‘Video’ which still didn’t impress the judges. She was even advised to quit by Scar. Mkhululi presented his own version of Nick Lachey’s “What’s Left of Me” much to the delight of the audience and the judges except TK who thought the song was too ‘huge’ for him. Maybe Evanescence could not have done ‘My Immortal’ better than Nicolette did in the show…just maybe. She got a resounding applause for her effort plus the compliments of the difficult-to-please Tk for her efforts. Ammara got all judges’ nod for her ‘beautiful rendition’ of Celine Dion’s ballad; ‘I surrender’. Trinah succeeded in taking the judges and the audience from the low to a high with her performance of Faith Hill’s ‘Cry’. At the end of voting on Monday, the judges’ opinion really did not count… at all. Adiona who was advised to quit made it through to the top seven. Ironically, Samantha whose performance was her best so far got the boot. With just seven persons in the contest, what you all ought to have known now is that winning in Idols is not just about being able to sing but much more about getting the votes. So… if you have a sister, brother, friend or anyone in the contest…just go ahead and vote for him/her and canvass others to do same…you know…like the politicians do during elections.
