According to reports from a Brazilian journalist who had an interview with Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, a move to Real Madrid might just be on the cards after all.
In the interview, Ronaldo says he would like to play for the Spanish league champions on the condition the club meets the fee Manchester United and himself would expect from them. That statement effectively puts the ball in the field of the Santiago Bernabeu side who reportedly have offered the Portuguese ace an audacious weekly salary of £300,000. Manchester United are also holding out for at least £80m before considering giving up Ronaldo in what, if it becomes reality, will be the most expensive player transfer in history. Ronaldo himself has meanwhile said he would not talk on the issue any further until after the European Championships, which kicks off tomorrow in Austria and Switzerland with Portugal tackling Turkey after the opening match between co-hosts Switzerland and Czech Republic. In another major transfer rumour, Arsenal’s top scorer in the 2007/08 Premier League season Emmanuel Adebayor is reported to have agreed terms with Italian giants AC Milan. All that is left for the move is for Milan to match Arsenal’s price tag of €40m for the shock move to be sealed. Milan was previously linked with Barcelona's Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba of Chelsea. Should that deal materialise, the money realised is expected to be used in signing Olympique Lyon winger Hatem Ben Arfa, whom Lyon chairman Jean Claude Aulas declared available for sale in the region of €20m. And while the deal with Olympique Marseille's Samir Nasri is expected to be sealed after the European Championships, another target of Arsene Wenger, Miguel Veloso, has had a price tag of £25m stamped on him. Finally, new Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has declared he wants to make the Eastlands club a force to reckon with in the league and would like to make Barcelona star Ronaldinho his first signing at the club. The Brazilian, who had a season to forget in Spain, has long been linked with a move to the other club in Manchester as a player sell-out is expected at the Catalan club.
