Kenyan, Christine as emerged the first idols wannabe to be sent home out of the final stages of the ongoing Idols East and Southern Africa leaving nine contestants to vie for the star prize.

Christine rendered her own version of Mariah Carey’s “Without You”. Unfortunately for her and fortunately for the show, the show can and should continue without her, so say the voters.

Cynthia was first to perform in this edition doing Donna Summer’s “Last Dance”, next up was Mkhululi with Lionel Richie’s “Stuck on You” then followed Christine’s.

Faycal continued the chain with ‘Hello’, Lionel Richie’s classic, Adiona took over with Beyonce’s Irreplaceable. Trinah tried to convince the audience with her rendition of Janet Jackson’s ‘Together Again’. Nicolette did Natalie Cole’s ‘Love’ while Samantha took over with aging Whitney Houston’s ‘Run to You’.

Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ rent the air immediately afterwards from the lungs of Eric followed by Ammara’s own version of ‘Respect’ by Aretha Franklin.

After singing out their throats, they all had to hope and pray the voters’ decision went in their favour.

The results, as usual Lebo was heaped with the responsibility of announcing the results alone. This time, Eric was first to land in the comfort zone. He was joined by Ammara …and… Trinah too. Mhukululi, Adiona, Samantha and Cynthia were ever too joyful to join them.

This left Nicolette, Faycal and Christine in the bottom three. Then the bombshell came for Christine, she had the lowest number of votes.

With Christine now out, I’m sure the remaining nine contestants would have their hearts in their mouth as nobody knows who goes out next, do you?

Meanwhile, Nigerians who do not have access to satellite television have been afforded the opportunity to view actions of the show on local TV station, African Independent Television (AIT). The show goes on air on saturdays.
