Former FC Porto and Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has been officially unveiled as the new coach of Italian league champions Inter Milan as replacement for Roberto Mancini who was sacked last week.
The unveiling was however a confirmation of an inevitable move by the San Siro giants, a move that has fuelled speculations of some players moving to the club. One of those players linked to Inter is Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard along with team-mate Didier Drogba and with Mourinho’s unveiling; a reunion is not out of the cards. The Portuguese tactician has meanwhile placed Drogba, Michael Essien, also of Chelsea and Mamadou Diarra of Real Madrid top of his transfer wish list along with Samuel Eto’o of Barcelona. Inter’s city rivals AC Milan has however come out to say contract talks with Drogba has begun though it is thought a move to AC would stall now that Mourinho is at Inter. Over at Mourinho’s former club Chelsea, Mark Hughes has decided to hold talks with Manchester City who sacked Swede Sven Goran Eriksson, ending his link to the Stamford Bridge side. Eriksson meanwhile has flown to Mexico concerning the post of national team coach, leaving Luis Felipe Scolari the Portugal coach, former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini and Russian national team coach Guus Hiddink as favourites for the job. For Mourinho, his main task is expected to be leading the Nerazzuri to UEFA Champions League glory, something he failed to do at Chelsea despite three semi-final appearances. Though he won the prestigious club competition in 2004 with FC Porto, Mourinho failed to defeat Liverpool in all the semi-final encounters between both sides. Hopefully for Mourinho, he will not be meeting the Reds at that stage.
