2 Shotz (In case you neva know), 2 shotz is one of Nigeria’s most popular modern day musicians. This has helped him make some real (fast money) and (if you no mind), I will beg him to put some (Naira in my pocket). He has been in the business for long, but at this (junction), he has come up with a (brand new style) alongside his age-long partner in crime…sorry, in business, Big-Lo.
Mmmm…just trying to be a little weird. Actually, in the paragraph above, those phrases in brackets are titles of some of the tracks in 2Shotz’s latest album, Money Business, released recently. The release of this album sealed a kind of reconciliation (you know the kind of brouhaha that always comes in every relationship), with long-standing friend and producer, Big-Lo. The ten tracker album has already created its sphere in the music market with its number two track, If U no mind, having already made the top ten on Nigeria’s most popular music channel, Sound City’s chart. In the real sense of it, 2Shotz’s career as a musician cannot be separated from Big-Lo having hit limelight with his first hit single featuring Big-Lo, Delicious. Since then, Big-Lo has been an integral part of 2Shotz’s campaign as a musician. Back to the album, Music Business is 2 Shotz’s fourth album as a solo artiste and his fifth overall having made an album with the defunct group, Foremen in 2000 under Trybe Records. Later that year, mmmm…as with most musical groups, one went solo…you know the rest. The split made him a one-man army, which, in my opinion made him stronger. He took the first leap with ‘Pirated Copy’ in 2004 – while trying to persuade his brothers in the famous Alaba International Market to give up the habit of pirating artiste’s works. With the success of his first solo album, he was bold enough to form his own record label, Umunnamu Music in 2005 and released his first album under the label, ‘Original Copy’ in the same year. Original Copy was a sequel to the previous ‘Pirated Copy’. Maybe he was not satisfied with the reception his second solo album got which, to me explains why he joined the Obi Asika led, Storm Record label in 2006. If that was his reason, then he was right in choosing Storm Records as his next album released under that label, ‘Commercial Avenue’ was an incredible success. That album contained a hit song titled ‘Make dem talk’, which stayed on major charts in the country for several weeks. His latest album has not been doing too badly in the music market especially with the popularity the second track mentioned somewhere above has gained on local television stations. He featured other artistes like Terry-G, Big-Lo, Timaya, and of course 9ice. I guess any artiste who hopes to make a success of his album, this time around, must at least mention 9ice in one of his tracks....mmmm. This album was released under ‘T-joe records’ and produced by Big-Lo, Terry G, K-solo and some others. Quote this article on your site | Views: 1416 | Print | E-mail
