Because Regina as leader couldn’t, in the CEO’s opinion, sieve all the advice she received from her team members and use which was best to execute the task, rather than point accusing fingers at Deox, she was fired.
The two teams were asked to come up with an original creative performance; much away from the business oriented tasks the Apprentice wannabes are used to, to raise money for less privileged children with the theme being ‘Help Put a Smile on a Child’s Face’. The two teams were given the benefit of having professional choreographers to assist them in executing the task. The execution of the tasks by both teams began, rather embarrassingly, with allegations and counter allegations of “espionage” in carrying out their work. Zulu corps accused Matrix of distributing handbills at the venue of the performance, Silverbird Galleria, which was against the rules. As expected, the Matrix team defended itself saying Zulu corps had earlier done the same. To the presentation floor at the Silverbird Galleria, Matrix corps was first to perform their mini-drama in order to raise funds. The short performance had Isaac, a sales manager, playing the role of Peter, a little boy who has to hawk bread to raise money for school. Kathleen played the role of Peter’s mother while Eunice played the role of …well, Eunice, a sympathising passer-by who wants to see Peter in school and not out hawking. Peter eventually becomes a doctor. After being failed by their PA system and their projector, Zulu corps had to stretch their vocal chords to the limit to pass their message across to their audience. They chose to present their message of help to less privileged children who are looking for the opportunity for a better future in monologues. Each team member took their turn in presenting their own part of the message with Regina playing Nkechi, a pure water hawker. At the boardroom, the session began with a ‘no tolerance for cheating’ lecture delivered by the CEO himself. He found both teams guilty of cheating and stated categorically that he is also looking at individual character traits of the contestants. As for the winner of the task, Matrix corps was declared winner for creating a good storyline that was at per with the theme. Zulu corps lost because ‘there was no emotional connection between them and their performance’. Their performance was also said to be a ‘bit disjointed’. And it was time to fire someone, Regina, leader of the losing team, chose Deox and Blessing to be on the hot seat with her. According to her, she chose Deox for focusing too much on the raising money aspect of the assignment and Blessing for the creatives which the CEO thought was lacking a bit on both sides. In relating what went wrong, Regina kept pointing accusing fingers at her two colleagues saying they were responsible for certain wrong decisions that the team made. This did not go down well with the CEO and he went ahead to give a brief lecture on what it takes to be an effective leader – listening to what the followers say and sieving the members’ contributions before taking a decision that will help achieve the team’s objectives. Hence, Regina was fired. With just six contestants left, the battle for the top spot would only get harder and harder. One more thing, can someone PLEASE tell Biodun Shobanjo (with all due respect) to stop saying good morning when he comes into the boardroom, Christ it’s evening when we watch and it’s a reality show…right?
