Nigeria’s last representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, Dolphins of Port-Harcourt were yesterday thrashed 4-1 by Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the third round second leg match.
The match, which was the rescheduled encounter of Sunday’s original match that was called off by match officials due to a soaked pitch with Asante leading 1-0, saw Dolphins open scoring through an own goal. The Ghanaian league leaders however came back in the second half to take a 2-1 lead in a fiery encounter which saw some antics from the Ghanaians all in an effort to make sure Asante sail the Dolphins hurdle. It became a farce when the cameraman attached to the Nigerian side was walked out of the Babayara Stadium by policemen and military as well before the home side got the needed two further goals to upturn the 2-0 first leg deficit. Asante has now reached the group phase of the Confederations Cup competition on a 4-3 aggregate win. The Ghanaian side also knocked out Wikki Tourists of Nigeria in the previous round, leaving Enyimba as Nigeria's last representative in both continental competitions.
