Dolphins’ Confederations Cup third round second leg match in Kumasi against Asante Kotoko was called off by match officials after torrential rains in Ghana’s second city made the pitch unplayable.

The Ghanaian side had taken the lead early in the second half after a goalless first half but were soon forced to leave the field of play after the city experienced a heavy downpour.

With the rains persistent, the field became too wet to play upon and match officials had to put the game off until today for 3p.m GMT, thus leaving the tie at 2-0 in favour of Nigeria’s sole representatives in the competition.

Meanwhile in the CAF Champions League, defending champions Etoile du Sahel were surprisingly knocked out of the competition after suffering a 1-0 home loss to Dynamos of Zimbabwe.

Dynamos had been doubtful of making the second leg match in Sousse after difficulties in raising funds for their trip to the Magreb nation and only arrived on Friday night for the game that was played on Saturday.

However, a goal just after the hour mark from Benjamin Marere sent the Southern African side into the lucrative group phase of Africa’s elite club competition with a 2-0 aggregate score and Etoile out of the Champions League this season.

The Tunisians will now take part in the less lucrative Confederations Cup which they won season before last. Dynamos meanwhile should have no more worries of raising funds for travel having earned a handsome amount for reaching the group stage.

Nigeria’s Enyimba have already reached the group stage after a 6-3 aggregate win over North African opponents Club Africain after a 2-1 loss in Tunis on Friday.

Also through to the lucrative group stage are ASEC Mimosas whose 1-1 draw in Morocco sent them through on away goals after a goalless first leg. Zamalek made it through despite losing 2-1 at InterClube of Gabon, winning the tie 4-2 on aggregate.

The Egyptians were joined by fierce local rivals and 2007 losing finalists Al-Ahly who came from a goal down from the first leg to win 2-0 in Cairo and qualify 2-1 on aggregate against Platinum Stars of South Africa.
