After 21 days of searching for Nigeria’s prime musical band, the grand finale of the fourth edition of Star Quest held on Friday with the Diamonds band emerging the winner of the quest.

The diamonds join the likes of KC Presh and D’ Jewels as winners of the quest.

By winning the quest, each member is N350, 000. 00 richer in cash, the whole band gets a mini-van, a N5m recording contract, a year guaranteed accommodation in Lagos and automatic tickets to perform at the star trek and star mega jam.

The show started on the 20th of April with 36 contestants who formed six bands of six contestants each. Since then, the contestants have all been in the act of music making.

The organizers of the show, Star Lager Beer, were ‘stingy’ enough to yield the task of choosing the winner of the quest to the viewers of the show which was transmitted on a daily basis on television stations across the country.

The process of choosing the winner started with the eviction of three of the six bands {B-Sixz, Spectrum and Next} two days before the finial.

Guest appearances by Mr. Cool and popular reggae musician, African China made the final event a special one. Although, they did not perform, they sure did offer some useful piece of advice to the contestants. Djinee, host of the show from the beginning was also rested with ace comedian Gbenga Adeyinka the first taking his place.

The three finalists, Diamonds, Da-Heritage and Expozee each performed two of their own original songs for the listening pleasure of the audience and to further boost their chances of being voted the winner.

The eventual winners, The Diamonds has Anthony Nwanne Iwediunor as its bandleader, Ifiok Effanga as its lead guitarist, Tope Ogunlowo on bass leaving Ajumoke Nwaeze and Blessed Edewor in charge of the vocals.

For The Diamonds, it is a dream come true and it is of utmost importance that they celebrate this feat. But, in the midst of their celebrations, they should remember that this is just the beginning and not the end of their career. What they experienced in Star Fameland is a child’s play compared to the Nigerian music scene.

I did not have the priviledge of watching this wonderful show because of my present distance from our shores. But I need to know, what kind of music did they play-highlife afrobeat, juju,...or R&B, reggae, jazz..?

Thank you
