(L-R) Ikechukwu Kalu, Senior Manager, Channels and Regional Marketing, MTN, Governor Jonah Jang, of Plateau State and Jude Nnabuife, Regional Sales Manager, North, MTN, during the MTN Xtraconnect-Sponsored Nzem Berom Cultural Festival, Jos... last Saturday. The event which kicked off on Monday April 28 and ended with a grand finale at the capital city’s Polo Field drew tumultuous crowd, including sons and daughters of the Berom clan from far and near.
The Nzem Berom Festival which is celebrated annually in Jos to usher in the planting season is known for its capacity to draw thousands of tourists to the state.
The Festival is said to be as old as the people and culture of the Berom. The Berom tribe constitutes one of the largest ethnic groups in Plateau State with ethnic spill in Taraba and Nasarawa States.
The presence of the telecoms giant in the community overwhelmed the entire village because as they said, no corporate organisation has reached out to them in recent times. Apparently, the members of the community were thankful to MTN Nigeria for reaching out to them and contributing to making the festival a memorable one.
Speaking on the sponsorship of the festival, the Regional Marketing Manager, MTN Nigeria, Shehu Abubakar said that MTN XtraConnect decided to sponsor the Nzem Berom Cultural Festival because of the love and care that is shared among the people during the festival which is in line with the values of the XtraConnect product of the telecom company.
He added that the mobile communication giant has been part of such developmental strides in so many communities in the country. According to him, community festivals such as Nzem Berom provide a good platform to reach out to the nook and cranny of the country with the message of love and care.
The Nzem Berom Cultural Festival featured various colourful activities the most spectacular of which was the War Dance, performed by the best dancers from the various districts in Berom. Also, prayers were offered to usher in the new planting season. MTN as usual painted the entire community with the warmness of its colour Y’ello.
