Judging by the high number of hits directed to this website via web searches for Ankara (the Fabric, not the Country), one can deduce that the fabric is popular, globally. I remember a couple of years ago when members of the 'high society' will not be caught dead in Ankara. It was considered common fabric. You had to wear outrageously expensive lace to make a statement.
I recently stumbled on a facebook group based totally on Ankara. The group has a whooping 4,000+ members, mostly Nigerians of course, from all over the world. Between them, the group members have posted over 400 pictures of Ankara styles.

According to an article previously published here, "The Ankara revolution is phenomenal. World over, the humble Ankara and Batik have become the new ‘little black dress’(LBD) that is an essential piece in every woman’s wardrobe. The Ankara which was once regarded as a fabric for the ‘locals’ and the old, has found its way up the fashion ladder and it’s sitting comfortably there".
