GM Nokia Nigeria Fady Khatib with Top Designer Deola Sagoe at the Nokia 8800 Premium Night

Nigeria’s high society gathered at Jade Palace, Victoria Island, penultimate Friday to celebrate the convergence of haute couture and technology at the unveiling of the Nokia 8800 Arte and the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte at the Nokia Premium Fashion Night. The premium range is the latest fashion and technology statements from the world's largest manufacturer of mobile devices and leader in mobile network equipment, solutions and services.

The event lead designer and Nigerian, Deola Sagoe, who has partnered with Nokia on the Face of Africa project for several years been described as an African fashion designer who is “best placed to interpret our cultural diversity and artistry, our earthiness and mystery, our colours, warmth and passion of the African woman in her simplicity and elegance”. She was supported by the hot new designer, Thabani Mavundla of South Africa who also previously in 2005 produced evening wear and jewelry for the Nokia Face Of Africa Search and has recently been chosen to represent Africa in the Paris fashion show.

Partnering with the Nokia Premium Fashion Night and Deola Sagoe, who premiered her exciting 1st ever male collection, M2, was none other than Uber Hollywood bag designer Onna Ehrlich. Ehrlich has designed bags for celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Halle Berry, Carmen Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton to mention a few and her bags have been featured in several International publications such as InStyle, Oprah’s 'O' magazine, Viva, LA Confidential, Star as well as TV appearances in E’s Daily 10, Desperate Housewives and the Perfect Stranger movie. Her bags are retailed in high end boutiques and department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales in the US, Harvey Nichols and on Bond Street.

The Nokia 8800 Arte and the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte are two brand new designs that capture the essence of timeless beauty and fine craftsmanship as well as cutting edge mobile technology. Both are made of materials of the finest quality, with the 8800 Sapphire Arte spotting premium design with top quality Leather and glass materials, Luxurious Sapphire gemstone, 3.2 megapixel camera, Data connectivity via GPRS, 3G and wireless LAN and 1GB memory. The 8800 Arte spots top quality black metal and glass materials, 3.2 megapixel camera, Data connectivity via GPRS, 3G and wireless LAN and 1GB memory.

Performing at the Nokia Premium Fashion Night VIP after party was none other than Famous DJ Prince Charles (Paris) who is resident DJ on all events for French fashion powerhouse HERMES!. He’s also an MTV DJ, European tour DJ for P-Diddy, Usher and Jennifer Lopez and acted as onscreen boyfriend for Alica Keys in her first feature music video. He was further more supported with live performance from Shank, the Nigerian artiste with hit song “Julie” which is currently 2nd on the MTV world chart.

Sagoe is a two-time international award winner who has explored African flavour with fabrics, which have distinguished her designs. She has won awards like the Alta Roma Moda show in Rome and recently was appointed by the UN as the official designer for the launch of UN World Food Programme and Health PR’s new global campaign: Catwalk the World, fashion for Food. Kaone Kario, 2005 winner of Nokia face of Africa, was the key model for the show along with other previous contestants from the project.

Mavundla, a top designer has won awards at major events like the MNet Designs for Africa, Sanlam South African Fashion Week and Marie Claire prix D’excellence de la Moda.

Matthew Mensah, Creative Director of Deola Sagoe Design, the organisers of the event, appreciated Nokia for the opportunity to work on their brand and also for supporting the fashion industry in Nigeria by encouraging a connecting platform with international designers to showcase Africa and its rich culture through their various designs.
