Sturvs.com has launched the first ever Nigerian social bookmark service which allows website owners to place buttons on their site to allow their content to be submitted to Sturvs or voted on if the article already exists on Sturvs. The new service has social bookmark buttons similar to those provided to leading web 2.0 websites like Digg & del.icio.us. Part of this service is a vote button which shows the number of votes an article has on Sturvs.com right on the article page. This development definitely contributes to the spread and syndication of Nigerian content all over the internet. More information on how to incorporate this into your website can be found at http://www.sturvs.com/tools. All Nigerian webmasters are invited to patronize Sturvs and use these tools which are the first of its kind for Nigerians.
Sturvs is a Nigerian sharing and voting website where users can share music, videos and articles; read news and also promote events and services for free. It is a website where users can add and control content, and what appears on the home page is determined by number of votes an article or submission has. You could call it a Nigerian web democracy.
Content is currently pulled from various Nigerian newspaper websites, MyNaijaNews.com, OnlineNigeria.com, NigeriaWorld.com, Nigeria Village Square, Youtube, various Nigerian blogs and other sources every five minutes. This allows users to get the very latest Nigerian content from all over the internet brought together in one place. Users can also upload mp3 songs as the website also has a music player that plays all tracks uploaded and is fast becoming popular among Nigerians in the US & UK.
This is not the first feat Sturvs.com will accomplish. Sturvs launched the first ever Nigerian facebook application in October 2007, and now there are several more Nigerian made applications on facebook. The Sturvs team is set to blaze the trail when it comes to Nigerian web 2.0 services and has more projects in the pipeline. The website is owned by Antigravity Inc., which is based in the US and has a large portfolio of clients all over the world which include Howard University, Soni Irabor, Lilian Bach, Bouqui, the Nigerian Cricket Foundation and ARM Pensions, just to mention a few.
