Lagos to Employ 3000 Students for Holiday Jobs |

Page 1 of 2 Lagos State Government plans to engage Three thousand youths for vacation jobs in the next few weeks when public secondary schools would proceed on vacation.
This disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Prince Niyi Oyemade while briefing the press at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa on the account of stewardship of his ministry in the first year of the administration of Mr Babatunde Fashola(SAN). Prince Oyemade added that One thousand of the youngsters would be employed by the State Government while the remaining Two thousand would be employed by the Organized Private Sector. The Commissioner said all arrangements have been finalized especially with members of the OPS to ensure that the young school students have a feel of the experience of what paid employment is like in addition to collecting a monthly allowance. Prince Oyemade also called on members of the public to always report any case of substandard product or item and as the state in conjunction with the Consumer protection commission is determined to protect the rights of all consumers in the state by seeking redress against sellers of substandard items. He also informed that the state Government intends to develop an ultra modern auto market in Mowo, Badagry where it hopes to relocate all auto dealers scattered over the state without proper parking spaces. Prince Oyemade also revealed that the ministry in conjunction with the partners in the Lekki Free Trade zone has already commenced the completion and laying of asphalt on 6km roads within the start up area as well as ensuring the installation of five functional factories and workshops. The Commissioner who was flanked by the Special Adviser on Commerce and Industry, Mrs Olusola Oworu also revealed that the estimated completion period of the start up phase of work at LFTZ is end of March this year. He added that a total of 3.5 Sq.km of the start up phase has been prepared in addition to work on the main entrance gate which is progressing with all the investment estimated to cost over $30.5million. He added that the Lekki Free Trade Zone Development Company would ensure the installation of two heavy duty oil generators to provide intermediate power requirement for the start up areas well as preparation of the right of way for pipelines to have access to the Atlantic Ocean during the start up phase. He informed that the car crushing plant at Shalla in Epe is presently undergoing restructuring in order to increase its output as the state Government is also discussing with a private investor who is willing to invest in the business but is still working out details with the state government. He said when fully operational, the car crushing plant located on an expansive 48 acres would successfully rid the state off all disused and abandoned vehicles as well as generate revenue from some of the bye products that can be obtained from the crushed vehicles. Prince Oyemade said over 250,000 business enterprises have been enumerated by the Enterprises Registration and Identification (ENTRIDA) agents engaged by the state Government during the long vacation of year 2007 to identify and register all legitimate businesses in the state.
