Re-branding Nigeria: A Giant Step
Written by Nnaemeka Oruh (liliemmy@yahoo.com)
Thursday, 01 October 2009
Much of the focus of Dora Akunyili’s duty as information minister is re-branding Nigeria. The aims it seems are to re-condition in the minds of the Nigerian people the feeling of patriotism and moral uprightness while also re-creating the image of the country in the minds of people from other parts of the world. The concept of re-branding Nigeria thus becomes a double pronged effort: PR, and ethical development.

The worst delusion that can come the way of a human being is his inability to know his exact status. I mean, when a beggar thinks himself a very rich man (financially I mean), or when a blood thirsty dictator thinks he is a populist president. Or worse still, when a prisoner thinks himself a free man. Where then would one begin, if help is to be offered to the deluded? I believe the appropriate first step is to uncloak the deluded of their delusion.

Dealing With Corrupt And Oppressive Governments
Written by Akintokunbo A Adejumo - akinadejum@aol.com
Saturday, 08 August 2009
“There is no institution that is more abhorrent than a corrupt government. No entity kills more. No entity plunders the treasury more. No one entity violates more individual and human rights more often, with more impunity. And none spews more propaganda and lies. History proves this beyond a shadow of a doubt. Whether it is a democracy, monarchy, military, union of socialist republics, or a communist state, you can rest assured that a corrupt government will be the bane of progress and development every time. And a corrupt government will always be an oppressive one. It has always been this way. Corrupt governments are always dangerous and inimical to the health, well-being and progress of the people they rule”. (Anon).

Government cannot do all our biddings. We need to help ourselves, by eschewing our wicked and selfish characters, which have most times left many communities and homes on the run.
