Where are the gas power turbines?

This feat has eluded Nigeria for some time. It has not been a question of wether the nation can afford it, but wether the Nigerian government can commit itself  to such a simple feat."

It looks like President Yar'Adua would like to release Asari Dokubo, the detained leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer force. He needs a damn good excuse to do that though. How about release, on health grounds.The President is said to be considering the release of the detained militant leader because of his deteriorating health.

Aid pledge: World Bank faults the G-8 nations

Election tribunal: Iwu begs for time to file brief

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu who is facing possible prison sentence for flouting court orders was yesterday, through his counsel, Kanu Agabi, pleaded with the tribunal to give him more time to sort himself out before file his brief to contest the contempt charges against him.

NSE Index Crosses 50,000 Points Mark

The indices for measuring performance of equities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), the All-share index, hit an historic high last week as it crossed the 50,000 points mark. Specifically, the index, which opened at 48,328.26 points, appreciated by 5.1 per cent to close at an all time high of 50,773.80 points.

5 - 10% VAT increase in effect

"Please note that MTN has implemented a rate increase in line with FG 10% VAT directive. Thank you." That's the message you get when you check your balance if you're an MTN subscriber. Several private sector operators have commenced the implementation of the recent increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) from 5 to 10 per cent, leading to adjustments in the prices of goods and services they offer. Those who have not implemented have served notice to their customers.
